We are looking for at least 11 volunteers to join us in the procession at Colchester Carnival on September 14th. As we are celebrating 100 years of strong Essex Women we’d like to represent each decade starting with a suffragette to represent some women getting the vote and then a character or costume from each decade from the 20s onwards.
This is also a chance to celebrate some of the stories we haven't been able to tell so if you'd like to celebrate women from any community in Essex please do get in touch and join us.
If you'd like to join in but costume isn't for you you are welcome to come along wearing a white, green or purple top-please do accept the challenge and register as we will need to know numbers
The processions starts at 6:30 PM at Abbey Fields in Colchester and we have registered as a group to walk as part of this. We'd like to meet you earlier in the day meet each other and chat about the logistics so there'll be a picnic tea provided.
We are also recruiting volunteers to help with costumes so hope to be able to support you with this but if you can create your own that is great- we can reimburse you for any money you spend on this.
Why get involved?
This will be a fun way to celebrate the achievements of Essex Women and help us in our campaign to get rid of the negative stereotype of the 'Essex Girl'
How to get involved?
Step 1 : Sign into your account or sign up
Step 2: Accept the challenge
Step 3: We will email you a list of possible costumes/characters and other options
