Who Are We?
Snapping the Stiletto is a project celebrating the achievements of Essex Women in the 100 years since some women got the right to vote. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections fund the project is working with 12 museums across Essex to help them to recruit volunteers to explore their collections and discover hidden stories of Essex Women.
The museums are:
- Braintree Museums
- Brightlingsea Museum
- Chelmsford Museum
- Colchester and Ipswich Museums
- The Combined Military Services Museum
- Epping Forest District Museum
- Essex Fire Museum
- Essex Police Museum
- The Fry Art Gallery
- The Museum of Power
- Southend Museums Service
- Redbridge Museum
Each museum will have its own challenges for you to sign up to.
There are lots of different ways to help the project as well as volunteering to work with a specific museum. We are looking for community groups working with women and girls to act as a steering committee to help plan events and suggest locations for a travelling exhibition. As the project develops we’ll need help with publicity and at events and exhibitions. We’d like some blog writers to respond to the project as stores are uncovered and other challenges will develop along with the project.
